I started running after 20 years of completely stopping and received excellent advice from Vincent, who trained at the Runner's Clinic. He recommended the Altra Superior 6, a shoe with almost no drop, very comfortable for my fairly strong foot, even though it's quite minimalist. "You'll really feel the terrain, and your foot will strengthen over time," he said. And he was right!
The key: gradualness. So, I run a little every day, stopping for a few seconds as soon as I feel any tension, then get back into running mode. For the past two weeks, I've been able to do one-hour runs with some elevation gain (once a week) and 25 minutes on other days, whereas a month ago I was barely running 20 meters with pain everywhere. I listen to my body; if I have muscle aches, I reduce the load.
