In september we stayed 2 weeks in Sesimbra and we rented for 1 day a scooter from WaveRent. We were very well attended from beginning to end. You can easily have contact with them via whatsapp. We also received some good advices for the route we wanted to take. We drove all along the beautiful coast to Setubal and back. Great Prices for good enough Scooters!
The Scooter I got from Waverent was pretty beat up, but did what it was supposed to do, the battery was pretty old, so the range for me was more like 25-30km, wich is still good enough to reach almost all surfspots in the area and get back safely. The communication with the company was Okay. Honestly I would give 3-4 Stars if the price wasnt so damn good!! So five stars from me! :)
I rented twice here and both times I had very frustrating experiences, mostly due to the owner’s (Luis?) lack of seriousness and care for his customers, as well as refusing responsibility for their mistakes.
The first time I rented, I had booked an electric scooter for 10am, which when I arrived to the rental place (self service), found out the scooter was not the model I ordered. So I message the owner who does not respond while I am left waiting around for hours without a scooter and had to pay to take a uber back into town. 2 hours after, after trying to call him and message him many times, calls me and tells me he will have the scooter ready sometime in the afternoon and that he would let me know.
After no news from him, I message him and he tells me to come, so I pay a uber again to come. The scooter is the right one this time but having wasted most of the day and having to pay for 2 extra uber rides for this, I ask him if he can at least reimburse a half day of renting as this was their mistake, which he refuses. (He claimed that they had the right to give you an older model scooter as it is “similar”, which is not true as these are 2 distinct products on their website, and I chose specifically this one because of the better specs).
Very disappointing for them to take zero responsibility on their own mistake and making me waste half my day because of it.
Second time renting, I asked for a scooter with surf rack which he agreed to, and when getting there, the one given to me didn’t have one. Thankfully this was resolved quickly this time, but then the next day he sends me a message telling me I need to come back to exchange the scooter as they need to do “maintenance” on mine so I lose time again.
And when returning the scooter in perfect condition, I had to chase the owner for 4 days in order to get my deposit back as day after day he says he will check the scooter and return the deposit but ends up never getting back to me. I honestly thought I would never see my deposit again seeing how unserious he seems to take this situation and how unresponsive he was.
The scooters otherwise were ok, although the state of the scooter can vary a lot from one scooter to the other (especially the surf racks). But it was mostly the unseriousness and lack of responsibility from the owner that damaged my experience.
