Sitio
The Sítio district, at the town’s highest point, is without doubt the best viewpoint in the area. But it is also associated with the cult of Our Lady of Nazaré who, according to the 12th century legend, was invoked by the alcaide (commander of a fortress or castle) Dom Fuas Roupinho who, while stalking a deer, was about to fall down into an abyss with no possible salvation.
Public beach
The half-moon shaped beach of Nazaré is one of the most picturesque beaches in Portugal, seducing its visitors with colourful beach huts, friendly dry fish sellers and dazzling natural beauty. The best view over Nazaré can be taken from Sítio district, where you can get to by e-bike. This is the ideal spot to contemplate this absolutely unique coastal town, while feeling the wind on your face.
Farol
It was first constructed in 1577 but has undergone remodeling and expansion on several occasions since then. The fort is a popular tourist site, particularly because of its proximity to a surfing area famous for the height of its waves. It now functions as both a lighthouse and a museum, which is devoted in part to surfing.
Cercado dos Veados
In Sítio, on the way to Praia do Norte, in the Pinewood of Our Lady of Nazaré we find the "Cercado dos Veados" – “the Deer Reserve”, a joint project of the Municipality of Nazaré and the Confraria (Brotherhood of Our Lady of Nazaré), in order to evoke and remember the miracle of Our Lady of Nazaré to the Knight D. Fuas Roupinho.
Norte beach
Located to the north of the imposing Nazaré Promontory (Promontório da Nazaré), better known as “Sítio”, Praia do Norte is an unsupervised beach. It feels like a wild beach, with dunes that preserve the original vegetation.
Pederneira
A belvedere at Pederneira, a historic place in the region. A fishermen's place since the 12th century, siege of the parish, Pedereneira was, after Alcobaça, the most populated small town in the region. Current day Nazaré is relatively recent, since in the 17th century the sea touched the counterforts of the Pederneira Hill. With the sea going back, the fishermen descended to lower altitude areas, where on finds thee curent town of Nazaré.
