Upon arrival, there was a massive queue outside the shop, but what can you expect? They're clearly the only ones in the resort renting alpine ski equipment.
After a 45-minute wait, and just steps from entering the shop, a man came out asking if anyone had any reservations. There were few responses from the crowd; he applauded. Things weren't off to a good start. And then, surprise! This man simply announced that he no longer had any equipment available for those who hadn't reserved. No solution offered, thank you, goodbye, ladies and gentlemen.
It wouldn't have cost anything to put up a sign outside stating that without a reservation we wouldn't get any equipment, or at the very least, seeing the size of the queue, to come out and tell us that there was little point in waiting for nothing. On holiday in Grenoble, after the 45-minute climb to find a parking spot (since everything was packed), and then the wait outside the shop, the whole day was wasted. We ended up in a shop in Grenoble on our way back down, which was surprisingly welcoming and friendly.
Of course, we won't be going back to Autrans. Don't come complaining that small resorts are dying after such a welcome and such poor treatment of tourists.
