In Dunkirk, cycling is the best way to feel the city at sea-spray level. Leaving Malo-les-Bains by the seawall, your gaze drifts to the horizon, and the track skirts the long beaches as far as Bray-Dunes. Between pedal strokes, you cross the dunes of Zuydcoote and Perroquet, skim past the Fort des Dunes and, at low tide, catch a glimpse of the shipwreck. French fries or waffles in the sea breeze (a windbreaker in the basket is always a good idea).

Looking for a more urban setting? Head for the port and citadel. Bridges, locks, quays, contemporary artworks near museums, silhouettes of ships... This mix of steel, water and light is perfect for discovering by bike, to the rhythm of the seagulls. At sunset, the golden hues on the dike are worth the detour.
