Perched high above Florence, Fiesole is a marvel to discover by bike. As soon as you start pedaling, you'll leave the hustle and bustle of the city for panoramic roads lined with cypress trees, olive groves and discreet villas. The village, with its quiet alleyways and viewpoints, lends itself perfectly to a day trip... or a sunset outing.

The most classic route links Fiesole to Florence along winding roads: the climb is challenging, but the reward is total once you reach the belvedere overlooking the Arno valley. Once there, you'll want to stop off near the Roman theater and gardens, before setting off again on the quieter paths that wind towards Settignano, or the Chianti hills for the more motivated.

For a successful outing, leave early to avoid the heat and traffic. Bring a water bottle (fountains are sometimes far apart), a small snack and a light layer of clothing: the air can be cooler at altitude. A helmet and lights are recommended, especially if you return at the end of the day.

As for pace, Fiesole is just as suitable for regular cyclists as for curious travelers: the important thing is to choose an appropriate itinerary and leave time to stop, admire, take photos... and enjoy a coffee on the terrace before getting back on the road.
