Cross-country ski rental in Les Contamines Montjoie is the ideal gateway to explore an unspoilt valley at the foot of Mont Blanc. The season is generally favorable from December to March, depending on snow conditions. For firm, fast snow, it's best in the morning, just after grooming; the milder middle of the day is ideal for families. After a snowfall, wait until the slopes have been repaired. The weather changes quickly in the mountains: check the weather report, and bring breathable layers, warm gloves, sunglasses and sunscreen. Bring water and a snack. Start on green or blue loops, then lengthen out to longer routes if your legs respond. Respect the signs, keep to the right, and avoid encroaching on the rails of the alternative walk if you're skating.
