Rent a bike in Versailles: rates, routes and tips

Want to discover Versailles in a different way? Get on a bike and immerse yourself in a ride that blends history and nature. As soon as you leave the city center, you're on the bike paths lining the Grand Canal. The water mirror stretches out under your wheels, offering a royal panorama ideal for a first photo. From here, head for the gardens designed by Le Nôtre and admire the secret groves, while taking advantage of the freedom offered by an electric bike to effortlessly climb the small hills.

Continue towards the Versailles forest, a veritable green lung covering 2,000 hectares where mountain bike trails and forest paths invite you to adventure. The birds will accompany you and, if you prefer a gentler route, the gravel paths are perfect for a family outing. Next, head for Marly-le-Roi: just a few kilometers away, you'll cross the bucolic Ru de Gally valley. History buffs will appreciate the remains of the Petit Parc, while gourmets will find plenty of places to enjoy an impromptu picnic.

Depending on the season, remember to pack a light jacket to ward off the spring breeze, or to anticipate the April rains with a light cape. In summer, choose the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest hours and enjoy the soft light on the flowerbeds. In winter, the climate remains generally pleasant: a few cool degrees, perfect for keeping up the pace.

To ensure that your getaway goes smoothly, take along a water bottle, a sturdy anti-theft device and check tire pressure before setting off. Don't hesitate to hire a mountain bike if you want to explore the more technical trails of the Meudon forest, or an electric bike to cover the miles between Versailles and Paris without tiring. The highway code applies, so respect traffic lights and crosswalks, and use bike paths whenever possible.

Now you're ready to experience Versailles at your own pace, guided only by the song of the nightingales and the pleasure of pedaling. So why take the car when a simple pedal stroke will open the doors to our heritage, the undergrowth and neighboring villages? Rent a Versailles bike for as little as €10/day and set off on your adventure.

We took the bike trip to Monet Gardens. OJ and Tobias were a fun crew. They took care of the details and made sure everyone had an enjoyable experience. It starts with a one hour bus ride to Vernon with details about Monet and Impressionist art along the route. Tonia’s has a degree in art history and OJ a background in cinema and French history. Arriving in Vernon there was a very nice farmers market where we loaded up on things to eat at our picnic about 10 mins bike ride away, right over the bridge. This was the only section that had an incline and the guys said to walk the bikes in this very short section if necessary. It rained on our ride to Monet’s house and garden after the picnic but stopped just as we arrived. The skip-the-line tickets provided by the tour were definitely worthwhile as it saved us a 90 minute queue for visitors without advance tickets. They allowed about 2 hours to at the house and gardens which gave plenty of time for a self guided tour and get a coffee before the return bike ride to Vernon (in the sun). After returning to Paris, OJ and Tobias provided recommendations for shopping and eating. We tried Cafe du Commerce and it was awesome. Highly recommend this tour and guides.

What a wonderful way to see the Versailles gardens/park! We rented bikes from Holland Bikes after visiting the Chateau. My family of 4 (kids 12yo and 9 yo) used them as an efficient way to see the rest of the park, Grand Trianon and Petit Trianon. The bikes were well maintained and of high quality. Rueben met us at the entry to the store and had us on our way in less then 10 minutes. The bikes came with helmets for €1 each and locks at no extra charge. Rueben kindly provided basic instructions for operating the bikes, he provided a map and verbal directions for accessing the Versailles by bike. Beyond having a wonderful demeanor, Rueben had the bikes ready and spoke great English. Thanks for an unforgettable experience and a great value! I highly recommend Holland Bikes to give your feet a rest and as a fun way to see more of Versailles.

Amazing service. I was on the last leg of the Bristol to Paris ride with 4 broken spoken spokes. I was forced to get a train into Paris for the last leg. I found this very helpful guy in the shop who was able to replace all my spokes within the hour. I was able to then cycle back out of Paris to complete the Bristol to Paris. Very friendly service and a reasonable price. Thank you.

Looking for a bike rack for our electric bikes (we already had the bikes, which was a shame because we would have found a wider selection and better advice at Cyclable), we received excellent guidance on this accessory in terms of brand, sturdiness, and ease of assembly. I recommend Cyclable for their friendly service and helpful advice.
