Why Arcachon is a must-see cycling destination
-
A dense cycling network: with over 300 km of secure trails, the Arcachon Basin region is ideal for unrestricted exploration, whatever the season. If you don't have your own bike, Lokki can arrange for you to rent one on site!
-
Varied landscapes: from the golden sands of the Dune du Pilat, to the pine forests of the Landes de Gascogne Regional Nature Park, to the calm waters of the basin, the scenery is never monotonous.
-
A living heritage: the villages we pass through - such as Le Canon, L'Herbe and Gujan-Mestras - bear witness to a culture deeply rooted in oyster farming and seaside tourism.
-
Adapted logistics: all departure points are accessible by public transport (train, bus, ferry), facilitating day-long or multi-day loops.
1. Cap-Ferret loop via the basin
This easy 30.1 km itinerary takes in the Cap-Ferret headland, with breathtaking panoramic views over the basin. Most of the route is asphalted, winding its way between quiet beaches, fishing ports and typical villages. The route is flat, accessible to all, and ideal for a family outing or to get back on the bike after a break.
2. Arcachon - Banc d'Arguin Nature Reserve
42.9 km long, this intermediate-level circuit takes you from the town to the majestic Banc d'Arguin reserve. Through forests and beaches, you'll come across a diversity of coastal landscapes and exceptional wildlife. A perfect itinerary for those who want to combine sport and nature observation.
3. Claouey - Cap-Ferret (return)
Starting from Claouey, this 47.5 km loop follows the coast to the tip of Cap-Ferret. It combines wooded sections with open ocean views. Slightly more technical than its predecessors, it is suitable for cyclists with good stamina. The finish at the Cap-Ferret lighthouse, with its 360° panorama, rewards every effort.
4. Plage du Grand Crohot and Réserve des Prés Salés
This easy 30.3 km route crosses the Prés Salés nature reserve in Arès and Lège. Pedal your way through marshes, lagoons and clear woods. Perfect for a relaxing outing, this loop allows you to discover plant species adapted to salt water and to observe many migrating birds.
5. Le Teich - Port de Biganos
A 39.6 km loop, classified as intermediate, linking the Le Teich ornithological reserve to the authentic port of Biganos. This mixed route alternates between rolling trails and more rustic sections. A gravel or VTC bike is recommended to get the most out of the route. An excellent compromise between physical effort and ecological discovery.
6. Arcachon - Dune du Pilat - Plage Pereire
An accessible 25.7 km circuit from Arcachon to the famous Dune du Pilat. The route is virtually flat, skirting Plage Pereire and then gently descending into the national forest. At the finish, the climb up the dune rewards cyclists with a spectacular view of the Atlantic.
7. Pyla-sur-Mer - Biscarrosse Plage
This 46.3 km route, with its more demanding terrain, is for experienced cyclists. The route passes through isolated forested areas, with a few sandy sections. The effort is substantial, but the scenery, between dunes, pine forests and ocean, is among the wildest on the Aquitaine coast. An adventure to be planned for the day.
