We cycled along the Chatres-sur-Cher section in Bourges. A lovely cycle ride along the disused Berry Canal (i.e. no longer in use or usable, as the canal is interrupted in places). Do read up on its history before you set off – it’s a fascinating account of the region’s trade and industry... There are some lovely stretches along the canal, with extraordinary light thanks to the trees sheltering us from direct sunlight and the wind, lush green countryside, though the sections through the towns could be improved; there are shops and restaurants along the way, and we passed through a small, derelict industrial estate. In short, a lovely cycle ride on a tarmac road in good condition, well signposted, which even children will enjoy. Please carry on developing the canal banks – well done and thank you for preserving the history and sharing your region!

Well, but unfortunately, there aren’t enough charging points for long journeys, and the tarmac is already badly damaged by tree roots.
