I’m not one for staying in hotels, but this was where I first met my partner and we decided to book this hotel. We thought it was absolutely brilliant. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable, the hotel is quiet and pleasant, and the staff are absolutely brilliant – a special mention to the person who welcomed us and who was even able to extend our stay by one night despite our last-minute request.

The Best Western Royal Hotel in Caen enjoys an exceptional location, right in the heart of the historic centre, on Place de la République. It is one of the city’s key hubs, just a stone’s throw from the shopping streets, Caen Castle, numerous restaurants and cafés, and also very close to the Théâtre de Caen. You can do absolutely everything on foot, making it an ideal choice for both leisure and business stays. Personally, I’m familiar with this hotel; it had been about ten years since I’d last stayed there, but I’d stayed there several times in the past whilst working with the Théâtre de Caen. And I must say that the hotel certainly lives up to its excellent reputation. The service is impeccable, professional and warm. The rooms were probably refurbished a few years ago now and everything is perfectly maintained. We were on the top floor, with a magnificent view of the square – a real treat. You sleep very well there; the bedding is excellent, the rooms are comfortable and spacious, and everything is very well thought out. I didn’t have breakfast during this stay, so I can’t speak about it from personal experience. However, from what I’ve read and what friends who were also staying at the hotel told me, it seems to be of a very high standard. In short, a top-quality hotel right in the centre of Caen, perfectly located and very comfortable. You can book it with complete confidence.

A hotel in a great location in the centre of Caen, within walking distance of shops, restaurants and the castle. Place de la République is a bit noisy on Saturday evenings (our room overlooked the square) but the hotel provides earplugs, so it’s perfect. The breakfast is very good, with lovely local produce, fresh bread, excellent coffee and plenty of choice (hot options – which I didn’t try – or cold options such as dried fruit, dairy products, various jams, spreads and more...) Comfortable room, very large bed, very friendly welcome.

We had a lovely stay at this city centre hotel. The room was spotless, the décor was tasteful and the staff were very attentive, offering great advice on places to visit. We’ll definitely be staying here again on our next visit to Normandy.
