Discover the Viarhona by bike, a unique itinerary from Lyon to Avignon, where you can discover the Vallée du Rhône and its breathtaking landscapes.
This section is part of a cycle route that forms part of a wider European project, EuroVelo 17, also known as the Rhône route, which stretches from the source of the Rhône in Switzerland to its mouth in the Mediterranean Sea.
The ViaRhona between Lyon and Avignon, some 240 km long, represents one of the most beautiful sections of the itinerary, offering a complete overview of the cultural and natural wealth of the Rhône-Alpes region.

The breathtaking beauty of Avignon
Because it's a journey where the Rhône serves as a guide, where you can discover the charming city of Valence and its medieval architecture. Because it's a must-taste stopover in the vineyards of Tain-l'Hermitage, between Lyon and Valence, to discover the world of wine, an emblem of our French heritage. Because the route combines nature and culture, the rugged beauty of the Drôme, hillsides and mountainsides, and picturesque villages steeped in history. Because we want to discover Avignon, its Palace of the Popes and its famous Bridge, living witnesses to the city's rich history.

Lyon to Condrieu (44 km)
What to see/do: Discover the charm of Lyon, then marvel at the vineyards of Condrieu.
Condrieu to Tain-l'Hermitage (50 km)
What to see/do: Between vineyards and views over the Rhône, a stop at the Cité du Chocolat Valrhona is a must.
Tain-l'Hermitage to Valence (23 km)
What to see/do: Visit the Maison des Têtes in Valence, a Renaissance gem.
Valence to Montélimar (51 km)
What to see/do: Taste the famous Montélimar nougat.
Montélimar to Pont-Saint-Esprit (54 km)
What to see/do: Admire the historic Pont-Saint-Esprit bridge.
Pont-Saint-Esprit to Avignon (49 km)Things to see/do: Explore the Palais des Papes and the Pont d'Avignon.

🚞 Access and services
Access by train: The train link between Lyon and Avignon does not allow the transport of no dismantled bicycles. It is possible to travel between Lyon and Valence by TER, where a bicycle parking space is available free of charge.
Other train access options are also worth exploring.
