For a beginner child, choose a length close to the chest.
For a more experienced child, choose a length between the chin and nose.
Between two sizes, select the shorter one for a lighter or beginner child, and the longer one for a heavier or more experienced child.

The child's height, weight, and skill level should be taken into account.

Select their usual shoe size. In case of doubt, measure their foot from heel to the longest toe.
